7 Tips to Keep You Motivated During the Holiday Season

Happy Almost Thanksgiving!!  We made it to that time of year!  The time that is not only filled with joy, happiness, celebration and being even more conscious about expressing our gratitude – it is also that time of year that is filled with giant grocery lists, shopping lists, holiday planning, family coming into (or about to be) in town, if you have kids – they will be back at home for winter break.

All of that (and then some) added to your never-ending list of things you do on a daily basis as an entrepreneur plus, the extra “end of year” tasks like creating a goal plan and budget that you keep putting off but know you need to finish before the end of the year.  *Phew!*  Things can get pretty overwhelming this time of year, can’t they?

Yes, this time of year is hectic to say the least.  When you start to feel like your motivation levels are crashing because you know it’s impossible to take a break with all the tasks you need to juggle, follow these 7 tips to help you stay motivated during this holiday season.

  1. Take time for you. Self care is the most important part of getting through overwhelm and loss of motivation.  Make sure you take at least 30 minutes a day to “treat yo self”.
  2. Get Organized! Take an hour or two to brain dump everything you need to accomplish by December 31, map it out by tasks that need to be accomplished by day along with that self care I mentioned in tip number 1.
  3. Take it one day at a time.  After your initial brain dump, don’t think of what needs to be finished in the future.  Focus on the tasks for the day and take one task at a time, too.
  4. Be present and celebrate. As a business owner, it is hard to turn your mind off of your business, but make sure to tune it down (or out if you can) to be present during holiday celebrations and take the time to celebrate.
  5. Tune out the negative and surround yourself with the positive. Too much negativity will re-hatch the stress and overwhelm.  Make sure you avoid negative people (as much as you can), thoughts and things and consciously incorporate positivity in your life.  In fact, cling to positivity like a magnet!  Try meditating (see number 1) or yoga.  You can also recite positive affirmations to keep the negativity at bay.
  6. Reflect on your progress. In a few weeks or so, you may start to feel the motivation sinking again.  Reflect on the things you accomplished over the weeks that past and recognize all that you did accomplish.
  7. Believe in yourself. Believe you can get through it, believe you can do it.  Trust and believe that you are going to crush your to-do list for the rest of this year so you can start fresh come January 1.

Happy Holidays!!  And remember to dance in the rain.  Every chance you get!
