This early in 2016 and it has already been a year of industry firsts for Pantone. First up on the list of never-even-heard-of-before announcements, was their choice of having 2 Colors of the Year in 2016 instead of one. Now, they have announced their partnership with Illumination Entertainment and Universal Partnerships & Licensing to create a new color based on one of their very popular characters: Minions!
Yes, that is right, “Minion Yellow” is now an official color in Pantone’s expansive color palette. According to the Pantone website, “[t]he development of PANTONE Minion Yellow marks the first time in the global color authority’s history that a color has been created and named after a character”. How cool is that?
Technically the announcement to add a new color happened early 2015, stating that the color will be added to the next addition of the PANTONE Fashion, Home + Interiors color palette.
