Pantone. The color institute that forecasts trends each year with one. single. color. This has been true since 2000 when Pantone started the color trend forecast. Now, for the first time ever, Pantone has chosen two colors to represent 2016: Rose Quartz and Serenity.
Rose Quartz (a light pink hue) and Serenity (a pale blue) to represent balance, calming, wellness, compatible, duality and tranquility. According to the Pantone Website, this is “[a] symbolic color selection, a color snapshot of what we see taking place in our culture that serves as an expression of a mood and an attitude”.
Basically, the “powers that be” that choose the color of the year wanted to portray a sense of compassion and balance in a chaotic world.
“Joined together Rose Quartz and Serenity demonstrate an inherent balance between a warmer embracing rose tone and the cooler tranquil blue, reflecting connection and wellness as well as a soothing sense of order and peace,” comments Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director of the Pantone Color Institute.
What do you think about having two Colors of the Year for 2016? Is it a good move for Pantone? Perhaps, with all the disorder from 2015, we may need two colors to join forces and bring balance back into our lives?
